Future of the show

Hello Heathens,

Alright since the website modernization is pretty much done (I need to add a link to the show’s new home). I now feel ready to talk about the past, present and future of the show. I think I’ve done a good job of keeping the fact I worked at KSUA separate from THH. I’ve graduated from UAF so I can no longer work at KSUA. I turned over management to new staff and I’m excited to see where they take the station. As such I am going to end the show on KSUA and move to OVERKILL RADIO exclusively for at least a year. August 23rd is the last KSUA show.

13 years ago Harry Peterson invited me to come on air with him since I wasn’t doing anything Sunday mornings. I never would have imagined that I’d still be around doing the show after this long. Those early days are marked by long mic breaks, everything being unplanned, and babe of the week review. Over time we all started to have adult life obligations and I eventually found myself doing the show solo for a few years and then remote when I moved out of Alaska. Since then the format of the show has changed from music comedy talk show to mostly music. While I like this format change I do miss those halcyon days of Harry and Larry doing the show with me.

The current format of the show is going to stick around for a bit, but I do want to change the format. Right now I listen to new music regularly, and have shuffled on after I get tired of new stuff. I am getting a little burned out on trying to find 1 to 2 hours of new music a week for the show. I’ve thought about what I can do to break up the monotony of the show and I think the best thing is to find a co host so we can add in more talk and semi-prepared sections. Having Stefano on recently has made me realize that I just enjoy the talking sections of the program the most these days. So for the next few months expect a little more experimentation as we are on a new station.

One of the benefits of Overkill is that the station is internet radio so I do not have to follow FCC censors like not swearing and keeping playlists clean. I can also skip past requirements to not play tracks from the same artist for a show. I really enjoyed listening to all of Nightwish and Metallica and might do more artist catalog pieces in the future. Doing some interviews would also be fun. I really want to expand THH to be a bit more than metal, but not a massive culture review show. I’ve enjoyed the movie review sections, and they might stick. I might add a reading or story section so I can try out some more creative writing.

So hopefully you enjoy these last 2 shows on KSUA and are as excited about the future of the show as I am. 13 years is a great run on KSUA, and I’ll probably be back doing terrestrial radio in some form (eventually). After August 23rd the only place you’ll hear THH is on OVERKILL RADIO
