Why I hate when people say I'm Busy.
Hello Heathens,
This is a bit of a rant of a half formed idea that I’ve been trying to figure out.
There is no excuse more common than “I’m busy.” No matter what stage of Covid lockdown we were in, people found a way to work this excuse in. Now that things have opened up (for now) more I hear a lot of people complaining that they aren’t getting to spend time with their friends and family. When I ask them what they have been up to I always get a generic response of “I’ve just been busy,” with no qualification as to what exactly they are busy doing. I wouldn’t mind this excuse if it were employed honestly.
We live in an age where it’s easier than ever to find ways to spend time with your friends and family, but people still find a way to get out of these obligations. The sad part is that since these platforms are more common people would rather spend time on the endless scroll apps twitter, instagram, facebook, reddit, or endless content mills like youtube than they would doing something (even if it’s an online call) with friends. Even gaming isn’t safe from seeing more and more friends disappear into the endless rabbit holes of social media or Netflix. The real issue comes in that despite being able to spend time with people in person or online, people still use this generic excuse instead of just being honest about why they don’t want to hang out.
It’s always better to tell people the truth instead of a generic excuse as to why you can’t, or don’t want to hang out. By telling the truth you might open a door for a healthy dialog about what is stressing you, are up to, etc. vs just saying “I’m busy” and expecting people in your life to know you are depressed, struggling with stress, etc.
Keep heavy the Sabbath Day
