Second Post

Todays show is going to be a lot of black metal. I’m not sure what exactly it was that put me in the mood for black metal, but today when I was trhinking of what kind of music I wanted to listen to to make a show playlist something about black metal relaly stuck out to me. I think that a big part of todays show was having The Serpentine Offering by Dimmu Borgir stuck in my head.

While the genre has gone through different waves, and while I enjoy some of the first wave acts I tend to think of black metal as really kicking off in the second wave when the genres sound became more rigidly defined. There is something about this older black metal that takes me back to when I was first getting into metal and trying to listen to all the classic albums that I could. I still am not even sure what it is in particular about black metal that I really like but I think the combination of the shrieking vocals and the fast tremolo picking on guitar. I think the lo-fi sound quality has some aesthetic to it, but at the same time newer black metal that has moved away from that style of production still sounds good.
