Top 23 of 2023: Part 1

Hello Heathens, Okay this is going to be a rather short blogpost as I want to spend more time thinking about the order of the top 10. I had a new method to track albums and rank them this year in an attempt to make charting a little easier so I don’t have to spend 2 weeks relistening to albums to determine a top rank of the year. I am not 100% sure how much I like this method as it does have some issues, but it did save a lot of time this year which was nice.

Short update, playlists, bullshit.

Hello Heathens, Here are some missing playlists, I am trying to figure out how the fuck I can totally move away from spotify for sharing these. I might just have the track + artist names in the blog and leave you to your own devices to find a way to listen to it. I’m very tired of apps being good initially, then slowly changing their UI and overall value to being hostile to normal people.

When did we start to take metal so seriously?

Hello Heathens, Something that I was very glad about a few weekends ago was that all weekend Metal Twitter was abuzz with a picture of some fans playing Magic the Gathering in a circle pit at a show. Is this an incredibly dumb thing to do? Probably, but the other people at the show didn’t seem to care, and the band on stage had fun seeing it trend on twitter afterwards and even commented that it was cool.

Video didn't kill the radio star, but will AI?

Hello Heathens, Edit: I’ve made slight edits to this to improve the clarity. Maybe I’ll write another part to this, but it seems that the future is shit and we have only ourselves to blame for it as we put convenience above everything else. I’ve complained about Spotify on here before, and really I should stick to my guns and totally get off that platform. At this point it doesn’t really matter what streaming service you are on since most of them are fairly shitty to bands.

A New Playlist

Hello Heathens, I always love this time of year because I get to enjoy a ton of horror movies. Kind of sucks that the rest of the year is very horror-lite and then we get barraged with them during the fall time. Again another week with no profound thoughts, only me dreaming about watching more horror movies. Enjoy the show and as always; also I fixed two posts, so if you want to final rankings for the Stratovarius retrospective I’ve added that to the end, and the Metallica blog post has also been updated with a title fix and nothing else.

Are We All Members of the Glanton Gang Now?

This is a bit of a meandering piece, but it’s something I’ve been mulling over in my head since I finished reading Blood Meridian recently. I just wanted to write some things down and hope to get you to consider these points. I am not looking to persuade you or for this to be professional writing. Social media has turned us all into members of the Glanton Gang, and there is no way to put that back in the box.

The Case for Saying Hi

Hello Heathens, I apologize for running an old show last week, but my travels for work kept me busier at this conference than anticipated. In my younger years, I was less inclined to engage in social settings. Although I wouldn’t classify myself as an introvert, I generally kept to myself in professional environments. This trip was an opportunity to see how much I’ve grown and why I believe it’s important to put yourself out there more in social settings.

Spotify Sucks

Hello Heathens, I’m sure none of you saw my tweet this week about how badly Spotify does with recommending music to me. The gist of it is that despite years of data on my music preferences, years of playlists, constantly liking new tracks, updating megaplaylists like my 2500 song long metal playlist, Spotify STILL can’t do a “Metal for you” playlist for me that is unique tracks. I’ve loosely kept track of the playlist for the last two weeks and everyday the first 10 tracks have included:

Missing Playlists

Hello Heathens, Well well well, Mr Inconsistent has come crawling back. What I thought was going to be a singular busy week at work turned into a busy month. I am very grateful for my job, and I have a lot of fun at it, but I am excited for things to slow down a bit at work so I have a little free time to write when I’m at work.
